ABOUT

Mission:

The Barnwell Farmers Market aims to benefit local farmers, producers, consumers and communities in the Barnwell region by encouraging a strong local food system; increasing sustainability of independent local farmers and food producers; and fostering stewardship of land and community through a seasonal direct to consumer market.

In addition to delicious local food, BFM offers nutritional workshops, cooking demos, youth activities, special events and more!

Our Team:

The BFM is a project of the HEALing Partners Coalition of Barnwell in partnership with The City of Barnwell and run by a team of one full-time market manager and a volunteer Market Advisory Committee who manage everything from vendor applications to setup and breakdown of market facilities to cooking demonstrations and more! If you are interested in serving on our Advisory Committee email us at: barnwellfarmersmarket@gmail.com

Meet our Market Manager:

Dawn Snead is a native of Charleston SC, and moved to Barnwell in 2020 after the passing of her mother-in-law, to finish the restoration of a historic home on Main Street. Dawn’s family roots are steeped in agriculture as the founding family of Coburg Dairy in Charleston, and later Planters Three Produce Farm on Johns Island. Spending her younger years helping out on the farm and enjoying lowcountry living, instilled a deep love for the outdoors, an appreciation of the bounties of nature, and an understanding of hard, dirty, work.

Dawn is a Co-Coordinator for the Veggie Cupboard Community Garden project helping with planning, growing, and developing the youth education program. She is also a member of the HEALing Partners Coalition, where she became involved in the development of the revitalization of the Barnwell Farmers Market in 2022. Her volunteer work with the planning committee on the revitalization project is what spurred Dawn to pursue the full-time market manager position developed under HEALing Partners.

The Barnwell Farmer’s Market Advisory Committee is excited to continue working with Dawn in this new position and is looking forward to a 2023 market season with more dates, more vendors, more programs and more events to be announced very soon!
